Jeff Casey is a PhD candidate in Theatre Research at The University of Wisconsin–Madison. He completed a BA in philosophy and English literature at the University of Texas at Austin, where he later also earned an MA in creative writing. His dissertation focuses on male friendship in American culture and is entitled “Booze, Bromances, and the Brokeback West: Male Friendship in Post-Closet American Culture.”

His article, “Voicing Our Dissent: Theatre & Community after the Wisconsin Uprising,” co-authored with Sandy Peterson, will be published in the June 2015 issue of Theatre Topics.

Jeff is also an art practitioner. His original play Hermetic was produced at the University Theatre of UW-Madison in the spring of 2009, and several of his short plays have been produced in the Madison area. He co-curated the art exhibition Unstable Systems at the Art Lofts at UW-Madison in the spring of 2012 and his site-specific performance piece Odd Coupling, a Discourse on Friendship with Occasional Reference to Michel de Montaigne was part of the 2013 Wisconsin Triennial. He co-directed Rainbow Bookstore’s production of Voices of a People’s History of the United States in summer 2013.
