My research is concerned with the social and cultural dimensions of communication technologies, in particular radio, popular music, and other sound media. The primary focus of my work is on the history of new and emerging media, and the convergence of “old” media with so-called “new” media. I am currently writing my dissertation on the cultural history of internet radio in the United States, examining the range of changes (but also continuities) in radio’s technology, forms, practices, and meanings that have resulted from the medium’s convergence with the internet and other networked digital media.
